One Hour Whole Grain Cinnamon Rolls

Ingredients for  12 cinnamon rolls

Dough

1 cup whole milk
1/4 cup salted butter, cut into small pieces
1 envelope instant or ‘rapid rise’ yeast
2 cups whole wheat pastry flour
1-1/2 cups unbleached all-purpose flour, divided
1/4 cup sugar
1 egg

Filling

1/4 cup sugar
1/4 cup packed brown sugar
2 tablespoons ground cinnamon
1/4 cup salted butter, room temperature

Frosting

4 ounces (1/2 cup) cream cheese, room temperature
3 tablespoons salted butter, room temperature
1 tablespoon vanilla extract
1 1/2 cups powdered sugar
